Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga

The Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, on the banks of the Shipra river, houses one of the most revered Jyotirlingas and is unique for its Bhasma Aarti, an early-morning ritual performed with sacred ash.

Significance

Ujjain is one of the seven ancient holy cities (Sapta Puri) of India and has been a centre of Shaiva worship, astronomy and learning for centuries.

How to Reach

Ujjain has its own railway station and is close to Indore's airport (roughly 55 km). From Shirdi, the practical route is usually a flight to Indore followed by a road transfer to Ujjain.
